Big celebration: The Follo Line with double breakthrough in the tunnel

The tunnel excavation in the Nordic region's longest rail tunnel has just reached its target towards Oslo city center. With the new minister of transport, Jon Georg Dale among the supporters, the tunnel boring machines named Dronning Eufemia and Queen Ellisiv fought for first place, but both broke through simultaneously.

Two tunnel boring machines, each 2400 tons, are racing towards breakthrough close to Oslo city center. They are both part of the Follo Line Project, the largest infrastructure project to date in Norway. Who will be the first to break through on September 11th – Queen Eufemia or Queen Ellisiv?

WHAT IS A TBM?

Tunnel boring machines (TBM) are used to make a complete and tight tunnel in one process. On the Follo Line Project AGJV will use TBMs to build Scandinavia’s longest tunnel, on behalf of Norwegian government’s agency for railway services (Bane NOR).
